Before instating his new starszy sierżant (senior sergeant), Kapitan Bzik was hoping to swap some war stories and get chummy. Rudek seems interested in neither.
Just for reference: the Kapitan (Captain) commands the company, about 100 men. Czerep, the Porucznik, is his junior officer, who commands the platoon Rudek and his friends are in. Rudek is being promoted to the highest rank NCO, which means he’s about to get a lot of responsibilities he doesn’t want…
Stylistic Experiments
With this cartoon, I continued to experiment with tweaking hue, saturation, and contrast.
I also introduced some subtle gradients. The most effective, I think, is in panel 3–it really helps set a mood. At least for me. Tell me what you think.
I also wanted to see what it would look like if I overlaid a texture on the background. It’s an easy thing to overdo, and I’m not totally convinced I didn’t overdo it here. The texture in panels 1 and 4 is a *bit* distracting to me, but elsewhere it works out.
Love Rudek’s, “Oh, Hell!” look in the last panel. Gave me a good laugh.
My grandpa had a blue uniform when he fought in the Russo-Polish War.
